Episode Eight.
My name is Winnie and I'm here today with Lucia and Bodicea.
We have been learning songs in three parts of harmony every week and we've had a lot of fun together.
This week we will sing all of those songs we've learned over the last three episodes.
Down in the River to Pray My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less and I Ain't Gonna Study War No More We're going to begin with a short warm up so that we're well prepared to sing.
As always, before we sing, we must prepare our voices and our hearts and our minds.
So let's start with our posture.
Our backs are tall and are ready for action.
If you are sitting, sit as tall as you can and place both feet flat on the floor, make sure your shoulders are relaxed and sitting right on top of your spine.
To do that, let's raise our shoulders high, high, high, high and relax.
There you go.
Now let's get ready to breathe.
Take a deep breath with me.
(inhales) And exhale.
(exhale) Very good.
And now we'll take another deep breath, and when we exhale, we'll make this sound.
Shh, shh, shh.
OK. Just like this.
OK, now let's do it together.
Deep breath in.
(inhales) Exhale.
So we're going to gently warm up the middle voice first.
Can you make this sound "oo".
Similar to now.
But just When we make this sound, the front of our mouth isn't open very much, but our throat is So using the "oo" sound, we are going to sing a short scale and it's going to sound like this.
(Piano introduction) ready ready (piano) Up Keep it nice and smooth Almost like an owl.
One more.
Awesome!
That was very good.
And now we'll do that with the word "LO".
(Piano) Gently going down.
Relax your throat.
But stay alert.
One more.
Awesome.
Let's start with Down In The River To Pray Do you remember when we did that about three weeks ago?
First, we will remind ourselves of all of our harmony parts.
We'll sing through verse one and the chorus on each voice part, beginning with the low voices.
(Piano introduction) Great job.
Now we'll revisit the middle harmony with Lucia.
(Piano introduction) Great job.
Thank you, Lucia.
Now, Bodicea will join us on the melody.
Lucia will sing the middle part, Bodicea will sing the melody and I will sing the low harmony and we're going to sing the entire song.
(Piano) Low (Piano) Middle (Piano) Melody (Piano introduction) Chorus Verse two Chorus Verse three Chorus Verse four Chorus Verse five Chorus Repeat this Chorus We did it, you did it.
Awesome Yes, you did it.
(laughter) Now we'll sing My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less Let's see what we remember from two weeks ago.
We'll sing through one verse and a chorus for all the parts.
And as always, we'll start with the low harmony.
(Piano introduction) Very good.
Let's revisit the middle harmony now.
You can sing with Lucia me on the middle harmony or you can sing the melody if you like.
(Piano introduction) Thank you Lucia.
That was great.
For high voices.
Just in case you have not heard this song before today.
We will guide you through phrase by phrase, the melody for this song.
We'll start with the first verse.
(Piano introduction) Great job.
Well, we've learned the low and the middle harmonies, as well as the melody.
So it's time to sing the whole hymn.
We are going to sing all four verses and repeat the chorus at the end.
I'll remind you when we get there.
First, we'll all be reminded of our pitches.
(Piano) Low (Piano) Middle (Piano) Melody (Piano introduction) Chorus Verse two Chorus Verse three Chorus Verse four Chorus Repeat chorus Yay, we did it!
(laughter) Well, we have one more song to sing today.
I Ain't Gonna Study War No More I bet this is pretty fresh from last week.
Let's begin by reminding the low voices of their harmony We'll sing just the first verse and the chorus.
Bodicea will join us on the melody, and Lucia will join us on the middle harmony.
You will hear them in the background, but mostly you'll be hearing me on the low part, (Piano) Low (Piano) Middle (Piano) Melody (Piano introduction) (Laughter) Good job.
Yeah.
And now we'll sing all of the middle harmony for the first verse, and the chorus and Bodicea will join us with the melody (Piano) Low (Piano) Middle (Piano) Melody (Piano introduction) (laughter) Good job, thank you, ladies.
Thank you, Lucia.
And now we're going to remind you or refresh your memory on what the melody sounds like after all of that practice, so that you can sing with us in the high voice or the melody But remember, I introduced the song I sing or the low voices sing the first line gonna lay down my burden.
And then the melody begins.
OK. All right.
(Piano introduction) OK, everyone.
Here we go.
We're ready now to sing the whole way through the song and Bodicea will join us on the melody.
I will sing the low harmony and Lucia will sing the middle harmony.
You may sing whatever part you choose.
Remember, we will repeat the last chorus and I will remind you.
(Piano) Low (Piano) Middle (Piano) Melody (Piano introduction) Chorus Repeat We did it, you did it us.
(Laughter) Awesome!
Yes, you did it!
(Laughter) (Clapping) We got it.
Thank you for joining our Senior Singalong.
We hope you've enjoyed singing through all our songs as much as we did.
We look forward to one day perhaps singing together at a PTA meeting or at a function in the park.
But until then, keep singing.
