Renowned sculptor, Gerry Tsutakawa is recreating an iconic photo taken in 1976.
The day when he and his father, George Tsutakawa, also a renowned sculptor, installed the Memorial Gates at the Washington Park Arboretum.
George designed the gates and Gerry constructed them himself.
Then in March, 2020, the Memorial gates were stolen.
Parts were later discovered after suspected thieves tried to sell the bronze pieces as scrap metal.
One gate was fully destroyed.
Right away, Gerry said he'd be willing to recreate the gates which are made of 150 pieces of bronze each cut, welded, and finished by hand.
The restored gates are now up at the Arboretum and will remain open most of the time, welcoming visitors to Azalea Way.
