Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban face a unique resettlement experience compared to previous waves of migrants.
The challenges impacting the current resettlement push including Washington's affordable housing crisis and the threat of COVID-19.
People who want to help incoming refugees can donate money to groups like the Afghan Health Initiative, and that's exactly what the owner of Kabul Restaurant in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood will be doing.
For eight weeks, Wali Khairzada, an Afghan immigrant himself, will give 10% of his profits to the group.
Decades ago, Khairzada moved to the US for college.
He planned to return home, but circumstances changed as Afghanistan faced political upheaval in the '70s.
Eventually, Khairzada made his way to Seattle in 1981.
Although he has lived here for many years, Khairzada says he still misses home.
