(light music) King County's bicycle helmet law may be repealed amid concerns about enforcement disparities.
The board of health is considering rolling back the law with a vote expected as early as next month.
Last year, Crosscut found that nearly half of tickets written under the law are given to people who are homeless.
Another study by Central Seattle Greenways also found that black riders were cited for not wearing a helmet at nearly four times the rate as white riders.
King County first required all adults to wear helmets in 1993.
In 2003, that law was expanded to include Seattle while the law was intended to protect public safety recent data on who has been targeted for enforcement has caused a reckoning, members of the county's board of health say they support and encourage voluntary helmet use and may replace the law with a resolution saying so.
