When it comes to gun laws, Washington is one of the top 10 strictest states.
That's according to lists from advocacy groups like Everytown for Gun Safety.
The state legislature passed several new gun restrictions earlier this year, as mass shootings reignited debates about public safety.
Those new laws include a ban on high-capacity magazines, a ban on openly carrying firearms in specified locations, as well as a ban on the manufacturer, assembly, sale and purchase of untraceable or so-called ghost guns.
Gun violence prevention advocates now hope to see Washington implement restrictions on assault weapons, but minimizing gun violence will require more than just passing legislation.
Both sides of the issue want to see better mental health support, to prevent people from using guns to harm themselves or others.
