Now, they weren't freshmen lawmakers.
Most of them aren't even freshmen in high school yet.
Yesterday was military kids day, as the children of servicemen and women had a firsthand look at the democracy.
Their parents are helping to protect.
Who's a family from Fort Knox.
What is a service?
We all talk about our family members service.
When you grow up in that environment, it's sometimes hard to take with that.
What do they mean?
What is my parents and my family member's service?
That's about their responsibility.
It's about them voluntarily assuming that responsibility, whether it's your mom and dad, your brother, or sister, aunt or uncle, who is the service member.
I want you to know that you are also a hero.
We talk about it, and at every military event, people thank us for our service.
We're here today to thank you for what you do to keep your family intact.
You make sacrifices for your country.
So part of your learning today is being a citizen.
And that requires you to stay abreast of what's going on as you grow and learn and take more history and social studies and learn about world affairs.
You'll recognize that you are th You are the heart and soul of a commonwealth to look at in this room.
There may be two or three of you that end up in these chairs in that 25 years, and that's a really neat thought as well.
So my hope for you today would be that you set the example and you'll be a representative as a military child.
And you know that people are looking to you to set the example and to set the bar high.
State Senator Jimmy Higdon started the event back in 2015, and this year his program saw more than 100 children from all around the Commonwealth attend.
