One, great cause.
We're here today with Sightline Institute.
Okay, Anna, who are you?
I'm Anna Fahey.
I work with Sightline Institute, a public policy think tank here in Seattle.
What is it that your organization does?
Well, we work on a lot of causes, actually, under the umbrella of sustainability.
We work on public policy solutions for transitioning off fossil fuels, for making sure that we have a steady glide path for workers and communities that might have an oil refinery or depend on fossil fuel for their economic stability.
We work on housing affordability, making sure that people have homes, choices that are affordable near their jobs so that they can get ahead in life, but also so that we can cut transportation pollution, so that we can make sure that our cities are sustainable.
And we work on elections, making sure our democracy is intact and that we have elections where people's voices are really heard.
We work on sustainable farms and forestry.
All of that is intersecting where equity, social justice, environmental protection, environmental health and sustainability all meet.
And all of those issues are ways that we can protect people today and protect our environment and our planet going forward.
Why do you do what you do?
Well, I do this work because it feels a lot better to be part of the solution than part of the problem.
Sometimes it's pretty overwhelming when we look around at all the things that need fixing.
So getting up in the morning and working on those fixes is really satisfying, even if it's sometimes a long slog.
Sightline'’’s been around for 30 years.
I've been at Sightline for over a decade, but every day I come to work and get to figure out how to make things better, not just for my neighbors, my community, the way we live here in the Pacific Northwest, but make things better for future generations, for our kids, for our grandkids.
I mean, a lot of what we do is sort of behind the scenes in the background, influencing how the press might cover an issue or how a legislator might lead on an issue.
But in the end, what we're doing is making change in the world, making sure that we can figure out these problems here in the Pacific Northwest, where we have abundant resources and abundant energy and smarts to do it, so that we can export those solutions to the rest of the world.
