This is Nancy's father, back for another one of our loving sing-ins.
Now, I guess you might have gathered from that little drum-a-thon we had that you just saw and heard that the subject for tonight's lecture is rhythm, the beat, the driving force that holds our lives together.
Without rhythm, your heart wouldn't beat.
Why, it'd just kind of lie around the house all day listening to Eddie Fisher records.
[ Laughter ] Without rhythm, woodpeckers wouldn't knock.
They'd barge right in.
[ Laughter ] Without rhythm, there'd be no clocks.
If somebody asked you what time it was, you'd say... "Well, it's a quarter to David Niven.
[ Laughter ] Without rhythm, music would kind of wander off into nowhere without direction, without moods, and without shadings.
And so tonight we say hip-hip, chin-chin, and other assorted, uh, hoorahs to the men who make the orchestra come alive -- the rhythm section.
[ Bass cello playing ] Hark, I do believe that it's one of them gentlemen I was speaking about right now.
