(bright music) - Sinfonia Salt Lake's "Voices from the Past" takes listeners on a journey through music shaped by earlier eras, including a rarely performed piece by a legendary film composer.
Joining the conversation are Robert Baldwin and Leslie Henrie.
Welcome.
- Good to be here.
- Good to be here, thank you.
- Tell me a little bit about Sinfonia.
- So, Sinfonia Salt Lake is a professional chamber orchestra here in Salt Lake City, Utah, that we formed back in 2016.
And it's a smaller orchestra in comparison to our Utah Symphony.
It's usually about 15 to 20 players, and we play niche repertoire that is composed specifically for that size of ensemble, which is also different from the Utah Symphony.
And we are, you know, our mission really is to bring that kind of repertoire to our community.
We don't, there's nothing else like it in Salt Lake.
And we are comprised of local, all really great local freelance musicians.
Everybody lives here, everyone is from Salt Lake City or the surrounding area.
- That's amazing.
Robert, can you tell us a little bit about some of the featured artists?
- Well, as Leslie said, the artists are the top freelance musicians here in the Salt Lake area.
And those folks come together and they really bought into our vision of doing this music that is rarely performed by large orchestras.
So, music by Bach, music by Telemann, that's on the program, as well as, as you mentioned, a very rare piece by Nino Rota, who was known for his film scores for "The Godfather."
- Oh, wow.
- And so that's a piece that I'm not sure it's even been played in Salt Lake City in maybe ever.
And it was really exciting to kind of find this music and to engage the orchestra with it.
- So people are up for a special treat that they won't really be able to hear anywhere else in the state.
- As is the case for most of our concerts, yes.
- Well, thank you so much.
We wanna get you some more information about this incredible concert.
