(upbeat music) - Salt Lake Film Society invites you to "Sing with Maria", a holiday sing-along to "The Sound of Music" with interactive fun at the Broadway Centre Cinemas.
Maddie Jones is here to tell us more.
Hi, Maddie.
- Hi.
- Thanks for being here.
- Thank you for having me.
- So it's such a fun tradition you've started there.
I mean, how long has this one been going on?
- I think we've been doing it, I think this is like, I think we're within 10 years, so we've been doing it for a number of years now.
- [Mary] And you just told me also, "Sound of Music" is 60 years old.
- It came out in 1965.
Can we believe it?
- No.
- Yeah, I know.
- Oh my gosh.
But this is a great event.
- Yeah.
- Because people come, they dress up.
- Yes.
- As all sorts of things.
- Yeah.
- You had an interesting costume.
- Last year I was a brown paper package tied up with string 'cause it is a favorite thing.
(Mary laughs) So I think this year I'm gonna continue the trend and be like, wear a white dress with a blue satin sash 'cause that's also a favorite thing.
But people dress up as nuns, they dress up as Maria.
People come in all sorts of things.
- In their lederhosen.
- Yeah!
Oh yeah!
Come however you think when you think of "Sound of Music".
- Alright.
And I know you guys provide props as well?
- Yes.
So we do a prop bag.
So it's kind of a movie experience like you may have never expected.
We want people to sing along, we assign everybody a note.
So in Do Re Mi they can really sing out their note and we have a bunch of prop bags so that during key moments in the film you can really celebrate it.
So maybe like when everyone's dressed up in curtain clothing, we have a little moment there.
Or when two characters finally kiss, there may be some confetti that we want people to shoot out into the audience.
So we kind of, it's not the your usual screening of "Sound of Music".
- Yeah.
People can do anything they want.
And I know it's great for kids, you must get a lot of families coming.
- Yeah, we have a lot of people who say like, this is one of their main holiday traditions and we kind of, we want it planned earlier in December so that it kind of like kicks off people's holiday spirit.
- Which is just great, 'cause I know you've got two well, four screenings on two days, which is great.
Gives people a lot of chance.
- Yeah, so come December 6th through December 13th and I think we're doing a 2:00 PM and a 6:30.
- Right.
Right.
Well Maddie, thank you so much for being here and thanks for that tradition.
- I hope it becomes one of your traditions.
- All right, thanks.
And if you'd like to know more about the singalong with "The Sound of Music, sing with Maria", it's December 6th and 13th at 2:00 and 6:30 PM at the Broadway Centre Cinemas.
