Sires’ preferred successor is no lock for nomination

Hudson Democrats’ progressive wing has other possible candidates in mind

U.S. Rep. Albio Sires, who announced his retirement from Congress, says his successor should be a moderate. Sires has endorsed as his successor Rob Menendez, son of Sen. Bob Menendez, who held the same seat in Congress -- then configured as the 14th -- back in the ’90s. But there’s been a significant “not so fast” response to that idea, mostly from the progressive wing of the Hudson Democrats.
