Skylar Brandt knew she wanted to be a professional ballerina since she was eight years old. Now a principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre, Brandt chats with photographer Sophie Elgort about making her childhood dream a reality. “When I went to see the ballet and I saw grown-ups being princesses and fairies and things on stage,” says Brandt, “I was like, 'Oh, I can do this when I grow up?'”

When did you decide you wanted to start dancing professionally?
- When I was eight years old.
I was a kid who was playing with my imagination.
When I went to see the ballet, and I saw grownups being princesses and fairies and things on stage, I was like, "Oh, I can do this when I grow up?"
