(calming music) - The mission of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is to make sure that every child has a bed.
Heather and Keala Haunga are here to explain how builds and distributions throughout Utah are making a big difference.
Thank you so much for being here.
- Thank you.
- Thank you.
- So tell me about Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
What is the goal of your organization?
- So our goal is to provide beds for children ages 3 to 18 that don't have one, that are sleeping on the floor or sleeping with a parent, on the couch.
It's just something that every child should have the right to.
And it makes them feel confident, gives them a good night's sleep so they can do better in school, and just be secure at night and know that they have something that's their very own, so.
- I slept on a couch for a long time, and it's not something that I ever admitted publicly or admitted to anyone.
How do you find these children and find out about their needs?
- A lot of the outreach goes through social media.
A lot of it's word of mouth.
A lot of times, when we deliver to someone and they have family or friends who are in the same situation or have kids that are not with, or without a bed, they pass it along, so.
There's a lot of different avenues.
We're trying to reach out to all of the schools because teachers know, you know, office ladies know.
And so we're just trying to get the word out so that people are aware that this is a problem, and we're trying to solve it.
- [Liz] And who are we seeing on the screen, the hands behind the beds that are being made?
Who are they?
- Just volunteers from the community.
The best part of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is bringing people in the community together to work together, side by side, to build beds.
We provide beds that are built in our shops or on location.
We'll build it in an open parking lot of a company or a business.
And getting to work with people may be the way that you build lifelong friendships.
- Absolutely.
Well, thank you so much for stopping by and sharing this information.
