We're in Canal Park, we're at the Mariner statue.

It's one of the city's public artworks, and I'm doing some maintenance, cleaning it and doing a little corrosion control.

It's pretty straightforward and simple.

I mean, first you dusted off, get cobwebs and all that kind of stuff off, and then cleaning of the surface statues are patinated with a bronze color.

When you see that blue color and very few cases, that's not how it originally was started.

It's just corrosion over the years is built up.

So we try to keep that at bay by lightly abrating it with gentle little scouring pads or, you know, vigorous brushing.

Then the mineral spirits will take off any residue that's there, and then the new wax goes on.

It's a protective coating which can last a year or two.

Art is a big part of my life, but I think it's a part of everyone's life, whether they're consciously aware of it or not.

And when you see something looking its best that definitely, you know, lets it shine and lets it be its best presentation for anybody who goes by.
