(bright upbeat music) - Top competitors from Canada, Wales, South Africa and the US are traveling to Utah for the Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship and Festival.
The event will unfold at a world-renowned Olympic venue and Carol Clawson's here along with Meg, with a sneak peek of what you can expect this year.
And boy is Meg making herself at home.
- (laughs) Right at home.
I know she doesn't look like she works, but she can.
(laughing) - Tell me about this competition that's coming to Utah.
- Oh, this is actually now a world-renowned competition of the really top level handlers from all over the world and North America in particular.
They come, it's an invitational and they come to be on this incredible hill where it's 400 yards up to the sheep and you can demonstrate, you know, what these dogs really do.
It's also a great festival for families, merchandise vendors, food and beverage, games for the kids, face painting, and a petting zoo.
So lots of activities that go on all day long.
- I love that.
And also some interactive demonstrations?
- Yeah, we have Earth Wings, we have agility, we have, like I said, the petting zoo, duck herding, very popular.
Go to Instagram, you'll see lots of it.
So, things to do, as I say, from eight to 80.
I'm often asked which is the best day to come, any day, really any day.
It's great all day long.
The competition starts at eight, runs all day long.
- Oh, I love that.
What is your favorite part?
- Well, the dogs.
(chuckles) It's magical to see what these dogs can do.
They leave your feet, go 400 yards up a hill.
You have a great sight line, unlike a lot of competitions where it's pretty flat.
And then you see that partnership with their handler and the communication at a pretty amazing distance and the crowd really gets into it.
They get very excited for the dogs and cheer as they make their grades in the other obstacles.
And so it's really a kind of a magical thing to watch these dogs work.
- I love that.
How soon do you think we'll be able to watch Meg in one of these competitions?
- I refer to her as a Soldier Hollow wannabe.
Maybe next year, but I have her buddy, Ben.
So yeah, she'll be there.
- All right, well thank you so much.
