Illinois may follow Chicago's lead and do away with subminimum wage.

A separate minimum wage for tipped workers is on its way out in Chicago — and now, progressive Illinois lawmakers want the rest of the state to follow suit. Under a new proposal, all tipped workers would have to be paid the equivalent of the state's regular minimum wage through wages and tips. If the tips fall short, their companies would have to make up the difference.
