We're a coalition of community groups and unions, churches, individuals all working to improve our community's standard of living, working on economic equality, and trying to address the issues that are really impacting the working class.
This will be our 21st year in the Rogue Valley.
We were very focused on living wages, issues such as health care for all, and accessible, affordable housing.
The people that were coming to us saying, you know, hey.
My rent just went up, and, I'm facing eviction.
Those same people then came to us later are going, hey.
Where can I park my car because I'm living in it now?
That was kind of a real wake up for the real economic situation that was impacting so many folks here in the Rogue Valley.
But one thing we can do is feeding people.
This will be our 11th year now we've been focusing on some of this mutual aid work.
Right now, our organization facilitates three, community meals.
We do two dinners, one on Thursday, at Pioneer Hall and on Fridays here in the park.
We do a breakfast on Sunday mornings.
People get hangry.
If they don't get food, you know, they're more likely to to wreak havoc on themselves and each other and and the community.
And it's it's just a basic human need is food.
I enjoy the participation.
Cooking for other people is really a joy and so I think there's a lot of people that feel like that.
I have been fortunate in my life and to be able to give back to some other people that aren't as fortunate is really a blessing.
So it's just a lot of taking care of people where they are.
A lot of times the hearts melt, they'll come in fast and furious and hot and hungry, and they'll leave full and lackadaisical.
That's what we're trying to do.
We're just trying to meet people where they're at.
And you know, if people are in in crisis, we connect them with the folks that can help.
If people wanna help, we train them and we get people plugged in, you know, as we want people to have the tools and and not feel that there's nothing they can do.
