They got a lot of the interior work done, the Hvac systems installed and operating.
Now they're just doing the exterior brick repair in the concrete patching.
My name is Hayes Scriven on the site manager here at Split Rock Lighthouse, and we're showing you around the restoration work that we're doing today.
When we took the brick off, there was ice piled up at the bottom on the inner layer of the of the brick.
And so that's the moisture going into the building, not being able to escape then it drops down and then freezes and then causes the, the cracking that we had.
Parts of the project that's been a really another good bonus for us is to do a lot of the window repair work.
And so like this window we could tell was in really bad shape, from before.
And so what we're now able to do is get up here and do all the glazing around the brick, do a lot of woodwork, repair, fix a lot of this that hasn't been painted for a while.
So This concrete was having parts of it were falling off from the from the restoration.
So what they did is they, they did a form and poured it all up here and then matched it with the existing as well.
The paint will cover it, be textured paint essentially.
And you shouldn't even know the difference.
Once of the other things that we decided after we were doing the project was we were going to paint all of this.
All of the all of the black that's on top of the lighthouse.
And then everything around the lens.
We're hoping that everything is kind of wrapped up by around July 1st.
Public access is actually where it where it should be.
People are able to go inside the tower, freely as they can with their admission ticket.
They can go all the way to the top of the tower.
And the only difference, really, is the scaffolding around here kind of obstructs the view a little bit.
But it is a different view, and you get to see restoration, in progress, which is kind of a special thing for, for such an amazing site here.
