The Slice from PBS North.

My name is Jessica Rogers.

I am the Planetarium Director here at the Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium, and we have been celebrating October with Spooktober.

The planetarium opened in 1967.

Has undergone several renovations since then.

And then I started here in August of 2018.

So over, what, eight and a half years?

I actually started Spooktober and our Halloween event.

I just loved the Halloween season and the planetarium wasn't doing stuff for it.

So I was like, let's do something.

At this point, most of the shows that we run, we have been running for a few years.

But a lot of the shows that we have built up have been made by students.

Our current rundown of Spooktober shows is, “Spooky Star Stories to Tell in the Dark”.

we also have our alien show “Aliens!

More Likely than you think...” because who doesn't love talking about aliens?

A big favorite every year is our Harry Potter themed show.

our last Spooktober show is Monsters in the Sky.

Some of the shows I run and some of the shows my student staff run.

So in addition to our public shows, which we run pretty much weekly with occasional weeks off, we also put on several big events throughout the year.

In the fall, it's our Halloween event.

In the spring, it's Astronomy Day, and these are fun, free events that have planetarium shows, activities, and all sorts of fun stuff.
