(cheerful music) - One of Utah's premier artist communities is peeling back the curtain, so to speak, so you can step inside and take a look at historic homes, enjoy live music, local food, and experience Spring City Heritage Day.
Randal Thatcher's no stranger to "Contact" and we are so glad that he's joining us now to tell us more.
Welcome, Randal.
- Thank you, Liz.
I'm thrilled to be back.
And here I am sitting in my restored pioneer home built in 1875, lovingly restored, and there are many such homes here in Spring City that are open to the public once a year on Heritage Day, and that's coming up.
So, great opportunity to come and see what it was like, oh, about 150 years ago.
- And I hear that the event attracts hundreds of people from all over the state, maybe even outside of the state, to take a look at what life was like back then.
- Even outside the state, if you're a history buff, especially pioneer history, well, I'll put it this way, the National Historic Society says that Spring City, Utah is the best preserved example of a 19th century pioneer village in the entire country.
And here it is, right in the center of the state of Utah.
So, nice opportunity.
- Yeah, a treasure and a gem indeed.
And how grateful or how nice is it that so many people are willing to open up their homes to kinda, sorta strangers who become friends at the festival?
- It is amazing that so many people in town are willing to do that, myself included.
There'll be about 12 old restored homes open to the public, and about 12 public buildings also open.
So, plenty to see.
Food, fun crafts, live music, yours truly on the banjo in the old vaudeville theater on Heritage Day.
So, lots of fun.
- Wow, and I hear that there's also gonna be a silent auction as well.
- Well, some of the artwork you see behind me is local artists here in Spring City, and yes, a silent auction.
Great opportunity to get an original painting by one of our local Spring City artists.
And that is also happening on the day.
- All right.
Well, thank you so much for being here.
If you'd like more information about this event, it is on your screen right now.
