(upbeat music) - PitchNic is Spy Hop's year long filmmaking program, where students and their crew mates create films, to fiction to nonfiction.
Loren Brunken and Kari Rice are here with all the details.
Hi ladies.
I'm gonna start with you Loren.
So give us some more information about PitchNic and how it works.
- Yeah, so PitchNic is again, our year long filmmaking program.
It's our most advanced program at Spy Hop.
So we take the kids 15 to 20 years old through every stage of production.
So pre-production, that's screenwriting, that's writing treatments.
Production, which is filming, all the things that come with that.
And then post-production, which is editing and coloring and all of that.
So, and then that ends with the premier at the Rose Wagner.
- Okay, and I know at those premieres they have to actually pitch their films.
- Yes, so each student goes through the pitching process in the beginning of the year, carrying their script and their treatment to a live panel, and then they decide which films get picked.
'Cause we can only make four per year.
We end up choosing two fiction and two nonfiction.
- Okay, and like how long are they usually?
- They range anywhere from six minutes to 29 minutes.
- Okay, okay, got it.
I'm gonna ask Kari, I know you're fairly new, but why don't you give us more general information about Spy Hop?
- Happy to.
Spy Hop is a youth-led media arts center here in Salt Lake City.
We're in the Central Ninth District.
And we teach everything from filmmaking, comic book, cosplay, audio design and production.
So it's really an opportunity for youth to come, tell their stories, find their voice, and really learn to make an impact in their community.
- Ah, that's great.
That's great.
Well, thank you both for being here.
I'm looking forward to this year's PitchNic.
- Thanks so much.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about the upcoming Spy Hop PitchNic, it will be November 7th at 7:30 in the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.
Just go to spyhop.org.
That's spyhop.org.
