Our guest today, Myke Johnson, is here with more information about the specific classes and the programs they provide.
Hi, Myke.
- Hello.
Thanks for... - Yeah, thanks for being here.
- Thank you for having me.
It's so good to be here.
- Yeah, Spy Hop is such a cool organization.
- [Myke] We are really cool.
- How many years have you been around now?
- I've been connected to Spy Hop now for going on like 15, more than that, like 16, 17 years almost.
It's been a part of my life since I was a teen and now it's so fun to be a part of like creating all the programming for teens now.
- [Laura] So tell us, for those who aren't aware about Spy Hop, tell us what is the purpose of the organization, what do you do?
- So we're an afterschool youth media arts center.
We help teens share their stories and use media as a tool to do that.
So we teach classes in film, audio production, music, design, and kind of all of these things that kind of touch those four base mediums.
So we do everything from podcasting to video game design classes to film classes, everything that students could be interested in around media.
- So are these open to kids of all ages?
- So 12 years old is our beginning entry age point, and then 19 is our top cutoff for students participating in our programs.
- Wow.
And are these classes free?
- They are.
- Wow.
- All of our afterschool programs are free.
- That is so great.
So tell us about some of the classes and the programs you have coming up.
- So starting next week in January, we've got a Film Personal Narrative class that we're still looking for some signups for.
We have an audio class that's Foley and Sound Design that we're looking for more participants for.
We've even got space in our advanced film class, Watch This, which is like a fast-paced episodic class that's about four and a half months long, and we've still got signups that we're looking for for those.
- [Laura] That's so cool.
- Yeah.
- And these are things that I'm sure students are really excited to learn about and so valuable for them.
- Definitely.
- Thank you.
- Definitely.
- Thank you so much for being here to tell us about it.
- I appreciate it.
Thanks for having me.
