(lighthearted music) - Spy Hop's award-winning spring camp gives kids a creative hands-on way to explore art and digital media during spring break.
Here to talk about what campers can expect, we're joined by Myke Johnson.
Welcome, Myke.
- Thank you so much for having me.
It's always a pleasure being here.
- So tell me about this new program.
- So it's our first time that we're ever running spring summer, or our summer camp model during the spring.
We've gotten some feedback from families, and we decided, "Let's try this for the first time this year."
We received a really awesome award last year for our summer camps, and we decided, "Why not try to implement this model over spring break "and provide some options for families?'
- I love that.
And you guys are providing options where kids will be able to be creative and also hands-on as well.
- Very creative and hands-on.
We've got Puppets and Filmmaking camp, and then we've got a Comics and Animation one that we'll be doing, so everything is very interactive, very hands-on.
We're all about media art skills that we're trying to expose students to, and give them opportunities to explore, and express their creativity.
- And one thing that I love about it is it's also flexible for families as well, right?
- It is, we've got a half day option and we've got a full day option available for families.
Space is limited in the camps, though, so we encourage people to go out and register.
Their registrations are open right now, so yeah.
- And a part of the reason why you're doing this is because you heard feedback from parents that they wanted more programs, right?
- Yeah, they're always looking for more programs.
And in general, we see that there's a need for more and more programming for particularly this young age demographic for options during the summer, but spring was also something else that we were looking at where there's that week off from school.
And some parents can or can't take off work to be able to accommodate that.
So what do you do with your kids all day when they're not at school?
There's an option here, so we'll see how it goes.
Like I said, it's our first time doing it, but we're excited that we're adding this to our camp offerings this year.
- I'm excited too!
It sounds like an incredible opportunity for kids to continue to learn during spring break.
- Definitely, we're all about adding to their educational experience as a part of our afterschool offerings that we have, so that's part of the Spy Hop way, and why we're in the community, and doing the things that we enjoy doing.
- Well, thank you so much.
Let's get that information to the audience so they can go ahead, and go online, and make sure that they sign up.
This is Spy Hop Spring Camp, April 6th through the 10th.
Just head to spyhop.org to get more information and learn how to register.
I'm Liz Adeola, and thank you so much for watching "Contact".
