The 1777 Flag Act gave us the first official US flag design, 13 stars and 13 stripes.
It was called the Hopkinson Flag.
The 1794 Flag Act signed by Washington, added Vermont and Kentucky to the Union with 15 stars and 15 stripes.
That iconic Star-Spangled Banner flag flew over Fort McHenry during the war of 1812.
And fun fact, is the only US flag to not have 13 stripes, but it's the 1818 Flag Act that we still follow today.
It standardized the 13 stripes, representing the original 13 colonies and ensured all new states entering the union would have their star added on the following July 4th Independence day.
Our current flag isn't even that old.
It became the official American flag just 66 years ago after whole Hawaii joined the Union.
America doesn't stay the same and neither does its flag.
