The incumbent Republican Andy Barr, is vacating the seat to run for the U.S. Senate.
With the House seat open, candidates in both parties are tossing their hat into the ring.
Republican State Representative Ryan Dotson kicked off his sixth district congressional campaign with a rally in Winchester last night.
He took strong stands on social issues like abortion and transgender athletes and promised to support President Donald Trump's executive orders to shrink the federal government.
Under Dodge, the Department of Government Efficiency, Dotson was joined by several of his colleagues from the state legislature who talked about what's at stake in the 2026 midterm elections.
Since the days of Obama, we have seen the spiraling out of control, the culture wars that is taking place.
The cancel culture that is taking place in America, that you can't speak freely without being canceled.
We've seen that the culture has influenced the church when it's really should be the church influencing culture.
The Republican majority in the House right now is razor thin, the smallest for any party since the early 1930s.
Almost 100 years, 220 seats to 215 seats.
So if the Democrats flipped three seats, then the tribe has spoken.
And we're good.
We're going to have the United States congressional seat open.
We're going to have 2 or 3, Senate seat.
Actually, we'll probably have about five Senate seats that are up for grabs.
State Senate seats, and we'll probably have ten or more House representative seats that are up for grabs.
The Democrats have absolutely mobilized.
They have committed to spending massive amounts of money to try to take any or all of those seats.
So they're going to have a grassroots movement.
They're going to be mobilized.
They're going to come after each and every one of us that are in shock.
All this time have fought for the unborn at every turn, unapologetically.
It cringes me to have to sit there and listen to all the Democrats tell you why we should have abortions.
It's women's health.
We have to sit there and we cringe.
But then there's times that righteous indignation comes up in us and we had to get up and say, enough's enough.
We fight for the unborn.
As you heard of, authored and passed into law, say, women's sports, probably the biggest bill that's got the most recognition.
But I went through hell with then faced a lot of darkness, faced a lot of, from different LGBTQ communities across the nation.
But I believe in what I believe in.
I fought the good fight and we got it passed.
My social issue guy and I do attack those things because we are in culture war.
But I'm also a business man, and it's been my honor to be able to work alongside of my senator and secure the greatest funding that this district has ever seen and be a thorn in the side of everybody that's got a D behind their name.
Dotson says that he knows of several other Republicans considering getting into the GOP primary for the sixth congressional seat.
He did not name names.
