(upbeat music) - The STEM Action Center is Utah's partner in promoting science, technology, engineering and math education, and here to tell us about this year's Utah STEM Fest is Communication Manager Shelby Averett.
Hi, Shelby, thanks for being here.
- Hi.
- So, it's coming up again.
You've got two full days, and where is it?
- So, it's at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy.
Pretty easy to get to.
- [Mary] Yeah, and I know you've got field trips for what, fifth and sixth graders?
- We have field trips both days, so Tuesday, Wednesday morning, we have field trips for fifth through 10th graders.
They come from all over the state, and then we have a free family night on Tuesday from four to 8:00 PM.
- Okay, and tell me more about the field trips.
What do the kids see, where do they go?
- So the field trips, they come in, it's wild and crazy, but everyone has a great time because there's a lot.
Every single exhibitor, we have about 60 exhibitors, has a hands-on STEM activity, so they come in and get to rotate around the different tables and try out different things.
One of the most popular ones is the mobile planetarium, where they can go in and learn about space, so there's all sorts of fun things they can do.
- [Mary] Okay, and you have a lot of sponsors, I guess, or companies who participate.
Who are some of those?
- We do, yeah.
So, US Synthetic will be there.
They produce synthetic diamonds.
We have Rocky Mountain Power, Meta.
We have museum partners, such as Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, Clark Planetarium, Thanksgiving Point, all sorts of great sponsors who help put on this event, and then we also have higher ed partners, so Utah Valley University will be there.
They always have really amazing science demonstrations, so we're very excited to have them back again.
- That's great.
And then what are some of the demonstrations that you personally have thought were fascinating that you've had?
- So yeah, again, the science one's so great, 'cause they're lighting things on fire, they're doing crazy fun things, and then one of our team members actually brings a real human brain that students can come look at, so that's a also a very popular one.
- All right, well thank you so much for coming, and thanks for telling us that.
- Thanks for having me.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming Utah STEM Fest from STEM Action Center, it's September 17th and 18th at the Mountain America Expo Center.
