Here in Bangkok, people play Takraw which means "ball" in the Thai language.

Takraw uses a ball and a net.

Andy: Ah-HA!

Just like basketball, my favorite sport!

Magic Globe: Well, not that kind of net Andy.

Andy: Oh, like in volleyball!

You're not allowed to hit the ball with your hands in Takraw.

In volleyball, you score a point when your ball hits the ground on the other side of the court.

Prawit: But in Takraw it's against the rules to use your hands.

You kick with your feet instead.

You said you were a sports expert.

(effort) Andy: Okay, no hands.

I've got pretty good kickers too, y'know!

Luna: Yay, Andy!

In Takraw, another player called the "Feeder" serves the ball.

It's our game, not like volleyball, not the same!

Andy: Hmpf...

I'm not sure I like this different version of volleyball, I usually get new sports right away.

Prawit: Actually, Takraw is much older than volleyball.

It's been played in Thailand for a long time.

So if anything, volleyball is a new version of Takraw.

Andy: Fine!

Well you can have your old... different... been-around-forever Takraw!

Andy: Andy Hmph!

Prawit: I didn't mean to upset your friend.

Carmen: I think he's just a little flustered by the rules.

Leo: Well, I guess the game's over.

I just don't feel like playing Takraw, that's all.

Luna: But Andy, you love sports!

Luna: Andy, just because something is different and doesn't make sense to you at first doesn't mean it's not a great sport.

Luna: Here in Thailand, Takraw is very popular!

You know, some of the sports you play back home might seem pretty different to someone from Thailand.

Andy: Like football?

But everyone knows football.

Luna: American football isn't common in other parts of the world.

Can you imagine Prawit playing football for the first time?

Andy: (giggles) Yeah, I guess that would be pretty confusing for him.

(honking) (car engine revving) Crowd: It's him!

Prawit: That's my dad!

He's a professional Takraw player for Team Thailand.

Andy: You have professional players?

You mean, it's his job to play Takraw?

(whoosh) Anurak: Heyah!

Carmen: Wow, Prawit's dad is cool!

Anurak: Hm... Luna the Moon?

Luna: I'll say!

Anurak: Ha, yeah, well I only got so good by playing against you when I was a boy.

Once I understood it, I was able to enjoy it.

Just because something is different from what you're used to doesn't mean that you can't enjoy it!
