And here is one that claims it can change the way you see the world.
Let's explore.
Let me introduce you to Sam Hampton, the executive director of the festival.
Sam, tell me what makes this festival so special.
Well, it starts with our team.
We have very dedicated group that, They're very passionate about film and social justice film.
And, they curated, over 60 films, for this year's festival.
And it's amazing that we can create a space for these films where, we like to say that the Social Justice Film Festival is a home for social justice storytelling.
And that's what people get out of this festival.
This year's festival opens with the topic of prison reform.
Tell me why that topic is so crucial.
Yeah, we decided to open with prison reform.
Specifically, we're going to focus on mass incarceration because mass incarceration affe... affects neighborhoods, it affects families.
Especially here in Washington state, which is the focus.
The festival also tackles international issues.
Can you tell me about your own film?
Sure.
I'm very proud that we.. local organization, Gifts of Hope.
This organization took 12 kids, 12 students to Senegal, Africa and we were invited to tag along to document the trip and the journey of these kids.
Well, not only is our project in the festival, your project is in the festival as well.
Tell us about it.
That's true.
Our project, the King Coun.. who have been displaced in Seattle Central District.
It's about examining what was lost and building a better future, which is what this festival is about.
