These are my favorite days in the field.
It's clear you want to try the Morehouse Stem, Association.
That's for young people to develop interest.
And obviously the science, technology, math, vocations and agriculture.
And we're particularly proud of our Kentucky State University, Robinson Farm.
We have a lot of different activities for them.
We just like to make sure that kids have a day at the farm and, and see all the things that they could maybe be interested in at some point in their future.
Kids typically tend to be a little skeptical about getting into beehives, but they love putting on bee jackets and veils, so we'll have that for them to put on.
And then they feel invincible and and then we can get into the beehive.
Oh my gosh, they're right there.
And I think one thing that they are surprised by is, of course, I'll have a smoker going.
And what they think will happen is that as soon as we open a hive, that they're going to be tons of bees just pouring out.
I feel like I've heard a stereotype that the smoker is like bad for the bees, but after what she said, she said it's not bad for them.
It just gets them to like, calm down.
So I think that's something that's really interesting.
I will try to find a queen bee for them, because that's the one thing that they do want to see.
I like to let kids, hold the male bees.
We call those drones because they can't sting.
And I like for kids to be able to touch a bee and kind of work through that bee shyness and let them see that not every single honey bee is out there to sting them.
And then we have some honey for them to try.
Most everybody who comes and gets in the demo hives loves either trying the honey or seeing a queen, or holding a bee looking at flowers, you know, understanding a little bit more about the world they live in and how it impacts their the food that they definitely the, pollination process I think is really important.
All the fruits and vegetables and stuff are pollinated from the bees.
They all, are helped by bees.
So I think that's really important.
If we can chip away at those fears which which are often a challenge with beekeeping.
If we can even chip away just a little bit and then at the same time, you know, they have a good experience in the hives, they have a chance to try some different honey varietals.
They can make a link between the pollination and the foods they like.
You know, I feel like we have served our younger population well.
Quite a buzz about stirring the more in common Stem and health Careers Summer Academy is a partnership between Kentucky State University and the Morehouse School of Medicine, and Georgia University say they want the students to be exposed to a wide variety of opportunities, in addition to learning about careers in the health care field.
