>>> THIS WEEK, MAYOR BRANDON JOHNSON ANNOUNCED A $6.8 MILLION GRANT FOR THE MELLON FOUNDATION TO BUILD MONUMENTS.
ONE OF THEM IS THE A MONUMENT TO THE BLACKMAN PORTRAIT BY THE POLICE COMMANDER.
THEY WERE CONVICTED OF PERJURY, SURVIVORS AND ACTIVISTS PLANNED FOR A MEMORIAL.
THE CITY INCLUDED A MEMORIAL IN 2015 AS PART OF A REPARATIONS PACKAGE.
MAYOR JOHNSON SAYS $250,000 HAS BEEN SET ASIDE TO BUILD A MONUMENT.
IT WILL INCLUDE A TIMELINE OF EVENTS AND THE NAMES OF THE MEN.
ANTHONY HOMES, HE SAYS HE IS PLEASED THE MEMORIAL WILL FINALLY BE BUILT.

I CANNOT STRESS IT, THE ONES THAT ARE STILL HERE, RESPECT WHAT TOOK PLACE WITH US.
THEY ARE HONORING US AND THAT IS WHAT IT MEANS.
IT SHOWS THAT WE ARE NOT JUST TALKING ABOUT STUFF THAT DID NOT HAPPEN.
