Susannah, a 1955 opera by Carlisle Floyd, is one of the most performed and esteemed American operas. The story reframes the narrative of Susanna and the Elders from the Book of Daniel to be about an innocent young woman in small town Tennessee, falsely accused of sinfulness by church elders. This filmed production was performed at Converse College in 1998, starring Elizabeth Carter as Susannah.
