When I released it, I was really ambitious about getting it done.
I actually recorded it in two weeks.
My poor collaborator, (chuckling) Kevin Aaron, who's also ASU alumni, I just said, "Listen, I wanna do this Christmas album."
And he's like, "Okay."
And so we did it.
And so "Christmas Child" was a song that I had started writing some years before that.
Kevin just brought this whole angel of love kinda orchestral type vibe to it, and obviously, I fell in love with it.
And I chose songs on the album that kinda meant something to me in my childhood.
The first song that I sang, like at the Christmas program was "Away In a Manger," which is on also on the album.
And then "Oh Holy Night," which is the other song that I did is my grandmother's favorite Christmas song.
And so for years, every Christmas, I had to sing it in front of the family and I was a nervous wreck, but (chuckling) I had to do that, so when I did the album, I wanted to make sure I paid homage to her as well.
I was born here in Arizona, but I was raised in California.
So the holidays was always like, I would go to Granny's house the night before, we'd be up all night cooking and baking, and I'd be up wrapping gifts, wrapping my own gifts (laughing) for that matter.
I'd be up 'til midnight wrapping my gifts, and I was the kinda kid that did not wanna know what was under the tree.
So she trusted me to give me the gifts and I always wrapped them, and then, you know, we'd wake up at the crack of dawn, because that was around the time either we had to put the turkey on or whatever.
And so it's always been, you know, my mom, and my grandmother, and when my brother was younger.
And of course, I've continued that tradition with my son, and so we go to Granny's house the night before, and you know, whether we're sleeping on the floor, wherever we're sleeping, we just, you know, that's just always how Christmas usually is.
Now of course, COVID added a different spin, but we still, because that's Granny's favorite holiday, so we still try to make it special for her.
