Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - [Narrator] Terry Nakanishi was a Japanese-American translator during World War II.
When the US entered the war, they needed to translate Japanese documents, so over 6,000 Japanese-Americans trained in Minnesota.
Terry volunteered and was part of the only class of women at Fort Snelling.
Because of the war, there was a lot of racism in the US towards Japanese-Americans, but Terry and others worked hard in the war effort, even in the face of discrimination.
Terry Nakanishi, a courageous citizen and American hero.
