(upbeat music) - September is library card signup month at the city library and all month long you'll get to be able to have discounts at several local businesses by just showing your card, and here to tell us more is Quinn McQueen.
Hi Quinn.
- Hi.
- What a great little program to get people signing up for library cards.
- Absolutely, we're so excited about it.
This is something we've dreamed of doing for a while, partnering with local businesses, offering those discounts just to show your library card and also obviously to incentivize people to come in.
If you haven't gotten your library card yet, sign up, it's free, it's fast, and everyone in Salt Lake County can get one.
- And it is such a great resource, our libraries.
- They're amazing.
- It truly is.
So Salt Lake City residents sign up one way, do county residents sign up another way?
- It's the same thing.
So even though we're in the center of Salt Lake County, if you reside in anywhere in Salt Lake City or county, you can get a city library card for free.
Okay, okay.
And you can come on in or you can do it online too, if you aren't able to come to one of our branches.
- I was just about to ask you that.
Do I have to come in or can I just go online and get it?
- Nope, you can go online, it's a very simple process.
We'll send you the digital information, now you can even add your library card to your Apple wallet, so you can show it on your phone, so you don't even need to have a physical card.
- Okay, but look at these beautiful cards- - But if you did want to have one, these are just a few of the options we have available, and they're beautiful and you get to pick them out.
I know kids have a lot of fun picking out their first library card.
It's a big moment, it means a lot to them and getting them started early is also very important.
It starts that lifelong love of learning and that connection with the library, so that's great.
- And just talk about some of the perks of things we can check out with our cards.
- Oh yeah.
So the city library is fine free, which is also great.
So that means even if you hang onto a book or a DVD or whatever you have for a little bit longer, even if you accrue a fine, as soon as you bring it back, we'll waive it, so no more late fees and then we have all sorts of digital resources, eBooks, audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, we've got it all.
- Everything, everything.
Well, thank you so much for being here.
I'm so happy to join you.
- I hope a lot of people get their cards.
Yes, thank you.
- And if you would like to know more about the city library and it's sign up month and everything those cards will let you get, it will go through September 30th, go to slcpl.org, slcpl.org.
I'm Mary Dickson, thanks for watching Contact.
