Hello, and welcome to The Life of a Musician.
Tonight's episode is recorded live from the Sublett-Miller House.
Let's step inside and listen.
-Hello, and welcome to The Life of a Musician , once again with another house concert edition.
I want to thank you folks back home for joining us today and welcoming the amazing, truly gifted singer songwriter and really good rhythm guitarist, Ms. Lauren Mascitti.
And what I'm going to do is do my best to not mess anything up and just let Lauren take the show from here.
-Oh.
-So... -Well, I'm so excited to be here, and this home is just absolutely beautiful.
And it's just such an honor to get to play for y'all in such a beautiful setting.
What gets better than this?
So I'm gonna start out with a song that I wrote with my dear friend, Mr. Bill DiLuigi.
He's an amazing songwriter out of Nashville, and one of my fellow paesan friends.
And it's called "Everything Good."
And we wrote it because we're really strong believers.
We love the Lord a lot, and He is the source of everything good in our lives, right?
So this is "Everything Good."

-I don't know, I always gotta do the thing at the end.
-That sounded good to me.
-Thank you very much.
All right, let me see.
Well, the next one I want to do for you guys is a song I wrote called "One Life Stand."
And I've been friends with the great Pam Tillis, Mel Tillis' daughter, and excellent singer-songwriter in her own right.
I used to do shows in Branson when I was 12 years old, and through mutual friends, we got connected.
We've been friends for a long time.
And so, during COVID, anybody that knows Pam knows that she's just such a savant and creative genius, and she wanted to channel that creativity into a completely other direction.
She went into directing music videos.
And so, I got to be one of the first music videos that Pam directed.
And it was just so much fun.
And it was on this song, which is actually a bossa nova.
And I don't know where that came from, but... -I think I said that.
-[laughs] It is.
-I said, girl, that's a bossa nova beat.
-Yeah, I played it at Opry, too.
And the whole band is just like, we never get to play bossa novas on the Opry.
All right.
This is "One Life Stand."

Oh, this is Wanda's favorite song.
I got my friends up here in the front row.
That's Terry and Wanda C. I'll dedicate that last song to you guys because y'all are a couple lovebirds.
You guys, too.
Like goals.
But anyway, I wrote this song.
You know, I'm originally from Louisville, Ohio, which is like a suburb of Canton.
It's about an hour south of Cleveland.
I'm also a very proud Italian.
We got any fellow paesans in the audience?
Anybody?
None?
Okay, one, two, three.
Okay, there we are.
Man, y'all just stuck it way in the back there.
But anyway, I, you know, I've been performing at Italian festivals my whole life, and it's just been a lot of fun.
I'm really proud of my heritage.
And, you know, I moved to Nashville to pursue music after graduating nursing school.
Yes, I'm a nurse as well.
We got any fellow healthcare workers in the audience?
Yeah, yeah.
But anyway, I moved to Tennessee, and I started getting called a Yankee.
And just a little backstory on this song, in particular.
There's one Italian festival, in particular, that I play at every year in New York.
It's the Blauvelt Sons of Italy Italian Feast.
And the guys up there, a lot of them are actors in Law and Order and Sopranos that belong to the Sons of Italy Lodge.
And they're the Italians that talk like it.
Like, "Hey, don't worry about it.
What's the matter here?"
You know?
And so moved to Tennessee, started getting called a Yankee.
And I'm like, you know, we're all, we all should be proud of where we're from.
And I've always been treated with such respect.
Those guys up there are like family to me.
And I'm just like, you know what?
I'm gonna write a song about being from the north, and I'm gonna call it "Fuggedaboudit."

Well, we're gonna go from that nonsense to... a song that I wrote.
This is one of those, as a songwriter, you know, every once in a while, you'll get those songs that just come to you so fast, your fingers just do not stop on the keyboard or on the piece of paper or whatever you're writing on.
And it felt like this song was just kind of dropped to me from out of the sky because I wrote it somehow within ten minutes.
And, like, I have hardly any recollection of the process.
It just was there.
And if I ever make a Beach EP or an ocean themed album, which is something I've wanted to do for a long time, this is going to be on it.

-Thank you very much.
You know, it's funny because, like, I write mostly, like, traditional Americana, like classic country type stuff.
And when I wrote that and I put that little, that's just where the song went in my head to me.
I'm like, it's gotta have that little, I call it a recitation.
My band called it a rap.
And I said, "It is not a rap, it is a recitation.
Because if Roger Miller can do it and Dolly Parton can do it, I can do it."
-Agree, absolutely.
-And so, now I have earned myself the nickname in my band, Lomash, that's my rapper name.
I don't know why.
-Lomash.
That's good.
I like that.
-Lauren Massetti, Lomash.
-I'm officially changing your name on my cell phone to Lomash.
-Lomash.
Great, thanks.
Well, you know, I wanted to end on a song since this TV series is called The Life of a Musician .
I love songs that are kind of like, the gold standard for me as a writer.
And to me, one of those is the great Don McLean "Vincent."
And it's so cool that we're in this Victorian home surrounded by all of this art.
The house itself is art.
-Absolutely.
-And I just love the sentiment of the song so much because Vincent van Gogh, Don McLean, anybody that is an artist or a creative in any regard, we've all gone through some kind of internal struggle of, like, throughout the creative process of, like, you know, am I good enough?
Are people gonna accept me?
I feel like sometimes, those of us that have gone through a lot gravitate towards music or art because it's how we can express ourselves and things that we've been through in our lives.
-Absolutely.
-And I just connect with this song so much, and... and, I don't know.
I also think it's really cool we're doing it in front of this beautiful statue of Baby Moses.
And I believe Carla said it was Barzachi, right?
Did I say that right?
And it's a Milan artist, sculpted in 1876.
So, like, I just, I just want everybody to appreciate that while I'm singing about Vincent van Gogh.
Art is art, and it's beautiful.
