- In many cases, the Meals on Wheels drivers, they're the only people that the Meals on Wheels recipients see on a daily basis.
Many of our drivers and the folks that they serve have really gotten to know each other and they form a relationship.
A Meals on Wheels driver saves a life at least once.
(gentle music) LifePath is an organization that started in 1952.
Our goal is to be able to help the older adults that we serve age with dignity, and part of that is being able to stay in their own homes.
For the individuals who receive Meals on Wheels, first of all, the meals are a great benefit to them.
Many of the folks, or the majority of the folks that we serve to are isolated, they're home bound, so by LifePath delivering Meals on Wheels to those individuals, they have a hot, nutritious meal.
- I had knee surgery, I had two knees replaced, and I had spinal surgery in my back, so I says I wasn't doing well in Price Shopper market, and I do like to cook, but it was just hard.
That's when I decided, I said I think I qualify for meals.
- Basic minimum eligibility is to be over the age of 60, residing within Albany County, and if they have minimum capacity, they are unable to create a meal for themselves.
On average, we're serving 268 to about 275 home delivered meals clients every day.
They're having that human interaction with the delivery driver.
And then we also do what we call a soft welfare check.
So we'll be checking them over, looking around, making sure everything is okay.
- I'm sort of semi-retired, but I needed this social interaction, not knowing I'd really enjoy my clients so much and my fellow workers, so it's really a great place to work as far as having the interaction, and your clients really rely on you.
- I think this is good, a lot of people should see it and a lot of people should use the program.
I hope they are.
