(upbeat music) - The Salt Lake Film Society is Salt Lake City's local home for independent cinema, year-long programs and classic films accompany first run films and other special events and here to tell us more, Marcie Collet and Jesse Sindelar.
Hi both, thanks so much for being here.
I'm gonna start with you Jesse, because you've got a new thing.
It's a Neighbor Initiative, so tell me what it is and how it works.
- Yeah, definitely, yeah.
So we're a nonprofit organization and our mission is to exhibit, create, preserve independent film in Salt Lake City.
So with the Neighbor Initiative, we want to kind of help people in our community connect through film.
So, you know, nowadays mental health, anxiety, loneliness, these are all things that we have all experienced, we're all pretty aware of.
And I think through communal cinema we can find a way to experience these stories and kind of have a bit of an escape, a bit of comfort, but also kind of share these feelings and thoughts with each other and ultimately kind of connect us more.
So yeah, for that Neighbor Initiative, you know, the best way you can support is come to the Broadway and see some films and bring some of your fellow neighbors.
- Alright, that's great.
Good idea, because then you can discuss the film afterwards too.
- Exactly.
That's the best part, right?
- Yeah.
And then Marcie first run films and some of the Christmas things coming up.
- Yeah, well we are always striving to put a diversity of programs together both year round and especially this season.
And whether you're seeing mainstream films that you've probably heard a lot of buzz about, like Bradley Cooper and "Maestro" or Emma Stone and "Poor Things," or "The Color Purple" musical opening on Christmas Day.
You can choose the Broadway, your local home for independent cinema or independent international documentary films.
We have some great international films coming from Japan, the animation genius, Miyazaki, his film, "The Boy in the Heron" will be opening.
And also from Finland, "Fallen Leaves," a little lesser known film.
- Great.
Well you've always got great things going on.
- Oh, thanks.
- It's just good to show up and see whatever's there.
So thanks for being here.
- Yeah.
- And if you'd like to know more about what's coming up at the Salt Lake Film Society, just go to slfstix.org.
Slfstix.org.
And there's also a lot of Christmas like the "Muppet Christmas Carols" coming up.
