A hardy mix of soulful blues and moving swing, it's The Sara Brown Band!
The Sara Brown Band out of Kettle Falls, Washington graced our Inland Sessions studio with their mix of swanky blues and rocking swing. Sara Brown herself is lead vocalist and married to bassist and songwriter, Jesse Brown. Brent Purvis is on the trombone and keys, Mellad Abeid on guitar and Brendan Cesaratto on drums fills out the rest of the group. This band proves that blues is alive and well!

So we're super excited for you guys to see the music video.
A lot of great players played on this piece and we're excited to share it with everybody.

Forty-four is a really sweet gun, that you may recall from the movie Dirty Harry.
And 55 is a really sweet vintage microphone with the cage.
Very, very cool.
So that's what the song's about.

And that's, that's always a challenge.
And this next one's a bit of a heartbreaker, Um, although it's entirely untrue.
So.
So hopefully you enjoy it.
[Drummer counts in] [ ”Love I Sold ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] [ ”Love I Sold ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] All that is gold will not glitter for me The love that I sold cannot be retrieved Please, hear me speak wont you listen once more my knees are weak as I knock on your door I tore apart our home I left you crying Now all I can do is roam I feel like dying [ ”Love I Sold ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] Remember when we had such happy dreams But those rich men, how they sparkle and they gleam A favor or two it turned into a storm And your heart was true keeping our children warm I tore apart our home And I left you crying Now all I can do is roam I feel like dying [ ”Love I Sold ” Performed by The Sara Brown Band] I can't go on like Judas with a smile Well, it's been so long and Ive missed you all the while Like Judas with a smile Its been so long Ive missed you all the while I tore apart our home I left you crying Now all I can do is roam I feel like dying [ ”Love I Sold ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] I tore it apart our home I tore it apart I tore it apart our home Said I tore it apart Said I tore it apart Yeah, I tore it apart I tore it apart I tore it apart our home I feel like dying People, you know, they see what we're doing and they'll get kind of an idea that everything that we do with a band and music is very romantic and it is, you know, on the face of it, it's awesome.
But actually working things out is, you know, not so romantic.
It's like, it's very much like.
[Sara] Challenging.
[Jesse] You know, there's some grind to it.
You know, me coming up with ideas that I like.
And she's like, “I don't know.
I don't like.
” You know, it's like dang it.
[Sara] He's an amazing songwriter.
But sometimes working out those kinks, just figuring out if it feels weird, there's certain things that you say that sound really strange coming from a different person.
Like there's just certain things that I'm like, I wouldn't say that, and I don't want to sing that.
[Jesse] Or I wouldnt say it that way.
[Sara] Right.
So, we kind of sometimes we'll work on different, you know, verbiage and things like that just to make it sound more.
[Jesse] Less like a dude.
[Sara] Right.
Basically.
So, that I can have a feminine feel to what I'm saying instead of coming across really masculine or really sharp or something I don't mean to portray.
[Drummer counts in] [ ”Make My Day ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] [ ”Make My Day ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] Said you were home You were all alone Couldnt get to your phone I guess I should have known Tell me something good Better make it great Just make my day.
I'm packing up my things I threw away your ring Treated you like a king Gonna leave everything Tell me something good Tell me something great Just make my day Well, it better be good Well, it better be great Just make my day You know how this one goes Get to live the life you chose I'm happy now and it shows You cant play dumb ‘cause we all know Tell me something good Tell me something great Just make my day Well, it better be good Well, it better be great Just make my day Boy, make my day [ ”Make My Day ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] You know how this one goes?
Get to live the life you chose Im happier now and it shows You cant play dumb, we all know Tell me something good Better make it great Just make my day Well, it better be good Well, a better be great Just make my day Boy, make my day [Sara] The name of this song is called Top Shelf Woman.
Jesse Brown wrote this song, and when he wrote it in, first showed it to me.
I loved the way it sounded and I loved the way it felt.
But I was really embarrassed about singing it because I didn't want to sing about myself being a top shelf woman.
It just I was super embarrassed to sing the lyrics.
So the more we played it as a band and the more we got into it, we kind of changed the song to be about everybody, that was, that was coming to enjoy the music and the top shelf musicians playing the music in the top shelf, people in the room and and it just got really, really fun and full of energy and full of life.
So I loved the way the song kind of evolved.
So this is Top Shelf Woman [Drummer counts in] [ ”Top Shelf Woman ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] [ ”Top Shelf Woman ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] From the day you met me Been your top shelf woman Ive got top shelf hair Ive got top shelf shoes Sing those top shelf songs I got top shelf blues Got top shelf manners Got top shelf looks Drink top shelf liquor Rest is for the books Oh yeah, come on Oh, baby, yeah come on Im your top shelf woman Everybody knows this song Ive got top shelf love For my top shelf man I'm making him top shelf breakfast from my top shelf pan I got top shelf love for my top shelf brands Dont make no difference Who they say I am Yeah, come on Whoa, baby, come on Im your top shelf woman Everybody knows this song [ ”Top Shelf Woman ” performed by The Sara Brown Band] Top shelf on the trombone and the keys.
