Lucia, Hi.
Gwen, Hi.
And Bodicea.
Hello.
For a few weeks now, we've been learning four part harmony to to some of our favorite Christmas songs, Joy to the World.
What child is This?
And the Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy.
And today we're going to sing all of them.
All of them.
Hey.
(laughter) We're going to sing through a verse and chorus for every voice part, then sing each song all the way through.
It's always important to do a little warmup before you sing Because we have a lot to do, it'll be a little shorter than usual.
Inhale.
(Inhale) Exhale.
Let's do it again.
Inhale.
(Inhale) Exhale.
Awesome.
We're going to sing a short scale.
And it's going to sound like this.
(piano) Okay.
Are you ready?
Yes.
Let’s go.
(piano) Moving up.
Nice.
Like a dove.
One more time.
Good job.
Now will warm up the low voice and we'll use the word low.
It sounds like this.
(piano) Okay.
Lips rounded.
Let's try it.
(piano) Moving down.
Throat open.
Softening down.
Last one.
Okay, now we've got one more exercise for you.
And this one is called Singgg-Ah.
I'll demonstrate it for you.
(piano) Okay, let's do this together.
One more.
Very good.
Now we're all ready to learn the harmonies to Joy to the World.
Michael will demonstrate the bass harmony for us with verse one lyrics.
Let's have you sing the bass part for the first verse with the accompaniment.
(piano) Awesome, Michael.
Thank you.
And now we'll revisit the tenor part two verse one, Bodicea will be singing the soprano cues for me.
(piano) Great job out there.
Thank you.
Thank you Bodicea.
Now it's time to go over the alto part.
Come on up, Lucia and Gwen.
(piano) You got it, girls.
Good job.
Now we're going to focus on the soprano melody with Bodicea.
(piano) Guess what’s coming now?
The entire song with all four parts.
Come on back, everybody.
I'm really getting to the Christmas spirit now.
(piano) Whooo!!!!
(laughter) Yipeee!!!
Well, that was so much fun.
And we still have two more songs to go.
What Child is This is next.
Let's start singing through the bass part with Michael (piano) Thank you Michael.
The tenor part is up next.
(piano) Okay, now it's time for the alto part.
(piano) Great job, ladies.
Thank you, thank you.
Bodicea will now remind us of the melody for the Sopranos.
(piano) Nice work, Bodicea.
You’re welcome my dear.
Here we go.
Let's keep that waltz feeling in mind as we sing this song.
Faces Alert.
Okay.
(piano) That felt so good.
Thank you, everybody.
You're welcome.
We're on to our last song of the holiday series now.
The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy.
Let's start the Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy by reviewing the soprano melody Let's sing the first verse and chorus with the accompaniment.
(piano) The bass brings us into the chorus by responding to the sopranos last line of the verse.
(piano introduction) Ahh.
Now we just need to look at the ending.
And from there, it's almost exactly the same as it was for all the other choruses, with just one note being changed.
Nice job, Michael.
Thank you.
Okay, tenors, here we go.
Let's remember that chorus.
(piano introduction) Let's just check out the ending quickly before we move on.
After the third chorus, we'll repeat, to the end.
(laughter) Very good.
Now, Altos, it's your time to run through the chorus with Lucia and Gwen.
(piano introduction) Yes!
Thank you, Gwen.
Thank you, Lucia.
Okay.
We just have to look at the ending now.
Everything is the same, except for the last, It moves up instead of down.
Okay?
Great!
You got it.
Awesome.
It is time.
Let's have fun with this one.
Maybe even dance a little.
This is the big moment we are going to sing The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy from start to finish in 4 parts.
I will remind you when we're coming up to that repeated, Oh, yes, believer.
And I'll have just enough time to say ending!
You're ready.
Let's go.
(piano introduction) (piano) (piano) Ending.
Woohoo!
Yes we did it!
Thank you, Michael.
Thank you, Lucia.
Thank you, Gwen.
