Heidi Miller and Courtney Hawks are here today as our guest.
Hi Heidi, thank you for being here.
It's a difficult thing for you, but you took this tragedy and turned it into something that would help others.
Kind of talk about how you started it and why.
- My husband and I started the foundation in about 2016 because we had been through the process of trying to get our own case solved for so many years and in the process we met people who had expertise in solving crimes and we also saw a need for law enforcement to have more tools and knowledge on solving crimes and we just wanted to help keep community safer, do what we could.
- So yeah, it's wonderful you did it.
And I know you've got an event coming up, so I'm gonna ask you, Courtney, to talk about the event.
So how does the Sherry Black Live event go?
What happens at that?
- So we will have a panel of experts who helped solve my grandma's crime come talk about their experience in solving the crime and the way they collaborated to solve the crime.
And they'll be sharing information that we haven't necessarily heard before and talking about what it takes to solve a murder.
- Yeah, I know 'cause your case took a while and involved calling in a lot of other people and DNA and it took, how long did it take to solve?
- Almost 10 years exactly.
- Wow, wow.
Anyway, I hope you get a good audience and you help a lot of people.
Thanks for what you're doing.
Thank you.
- Thank you.
