District leaders used data from the recent Map Growth Assessment for reading to identify 3 5th grade students who showed the biggest gains in the entire school district.
Those students and their teachers got a big surprise when CCSD superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara, showed up in their classrooms.
Now we tagged along with Dr. Jara as he hand-delivered the superintendent's reading Awards.
First stop, Dickens Elementary.
What's going on over here?
Today, we received a surprise visit from our superintendent.
You know what?
The superintendent.
It's like the principal of principals, right?
Like your principal.
Ms.. King is in charge of the school.
Well, I'm in charge of all the schools, Right?
But I have a great team.
So you are here and.
They can tell me, treat.
The kids elementary school.
And you are in the fifth grade, right?
Yeah.
One of my students named Ma did show the highest growth in his map testing in the whole school district.
So that's pretty amazing.
So this morning, you were surprise in your class because of your reading.
You had you made some really good gains in your reading association.
I'm so proud of you.
Map assessment is an assessment that students take four times a year to measure their growth in math and reading.
It is very important, particularly because we know that our kids have come back to school with gaps.
It is so important to have that information so that we can provide real time intervention for students.

Then you have a great teacher.

Cassandra Pass is the granddaughter of Dusty Dickens, our namesake.
We are so proud of Miss Pass.
She is actually a first year teacher and it has just been so wonderful to see her grow and just see the results of her hard work with her students.
Mama, he's just he's just a pretty amazing kid.
He has just been so focused on just understanding more, just showing that he is working hard and being an amazing student.
Listen, I am very proud of you.
I know your mom and dad are so proud of you too.
Suddenly content that content support name for a la Rancic is down Saturday in the E, La Liga, the orchestra and opera, and also presented them.
It was just so great to see the smile on his face this morning and how proud his parents were.
But it's just indicative of the hard work that he's put in, and it is just so great to see him be recognized, rewarded for that.
Those all name on it was all him.
He's going to go a lot of places in life based off of just the dedication he has at such a young age.
Keep up the good work.

We also want to give a big shout out to the two other award winners, Nyasia, who recently transferred to CT Sewell Elementary, and Emelia, a fifth grader at Joshua Stevens Elementary School.
