So, I'm giving you that preface.
This is a song that I wrote about our family, four generations of women surviving in Black Mountain, holding on desperately to our old ways as the world changes around us and we keep facing the threat of removal yet again because of all of the things that are going on with climate change, environment, mountaintop removal, all those things.
And so I'm honoring our survival, okay?
This is a song called "40 Wheels."
It's also a song about the Trail of Tears.
But back home, we call the Trail of Tears the Long Walk.
A lot of people don't know that.
where my family is from, in Kentucky, was also one of the trails, in Hopkinsville, and you can go and visit it.
And there's really interesting stuff in that area, in that part of town.
Anyway, so, this song I dedicate to my family and all the women in my family.
I would not be here without them and all the strength and the struggles, because, really, it's all about the struggles that give you the strength, right?
