I'm glad that I'm getting a good sound check.
Yeah.
Hi.
>>Hi.
>>Yeah.
My name is Benoit, an this is my wife's living room.
I have to say that because she's right there, she can hear me.
So what I mean by that is that this is our home, and we live here.
That's what it means.
So Orlando is a very strange town for musicians because there's a lot of work at the parks, for the tourism industry, for the convention industry.
They don't have a lot of freedom to do what they were trained to do.
For the musicians, we're giving them a place where they know this is about the music.
This is a completely different ballgame.
Like the music comes first.
♪♪ We moved to Florida from Montreal because I got an offer from Cirque de Soleil they wanted me to go to Vegas.
I actually hung up on the on the scout.
I said, Vegas, I hate Vegas, but I called them and I said, hey, I'll do Orlando.
Back in 1999, Orlando did not have a thriving artistic scene during the week.
They had things during the weekend.
I couldn't make any of them.
I was always working.
But after a few months, I needed some, like, you know, soul replenishing.
We decided to have a concert in our house.
>>Clear out tables and and bring chairs in and people would si and listen and enjoy the music.
It was a very friendly atmosphere.
>>But the first concert was just for the band that I had at Cirque, my friends, my colleagues, and then we did the first show and there were like 25 people in the house, and then somebody said, hey, when's the next one?
And I didn't plan on the next one we just planned on one show, but just like okay.
And then somebod raised their hand, "I'll play."
It turns out that we, you know, we hit the nerve.
Within a few months it was every week.
So that's why we designed and built this place, because it's just a little bi more conducive to having shows.
>>There was a hole there was a gap here in Orlando, and he was like, this is what we need.
Him and Elaine and the family.
This is what we need.
Let's give it to em.
Let's invest in it, let's invest in Orland let's invest in our community.
Let's invest in the arts.
Who does that anymore?
>>You know, this this thing grew and became, an important part of, Orlando's cultural scene.
And I hope that it grows more.
>>Okay well, that's what I like to do.
Yeah.
Welcome back thank you.
>>Already chilled.
>>Terrific.
That's what people are asking for.
>>We're always open to the community.
But tonight we really wanted to give the communit a chance to come in to Timucua, ask us any questions they have, tour the space, have a glass of wine on us.
Coming to an event like this, you go in, the musicians are sitting in a circle They're talking to each other.
They stop in the middle of what they're doing, if something's messing it up and they figure it out, you're a part of it.
It's heartwarming to be able to talk with the musicians and see how happy they are.
It's just love and community, and that's what we are.
♪♪ >>What we do her that no one else has gotten yet is, achievin this kind of the balance between the audience's experienc and the performers' experience.
It feels like hom because it's a home, you know, I've put a lot of energy and into improving the gear and the quality of the videos and the audio that we produce for, for the performers, because they can use that to further their careers.
It's always a win-win for us, like that's what we always looking for.
Every week I try to improve something and this is probably why we have like 200 bands on the waiting list, musicians from all over the world, they know about this place and they want to play here because this is literally th best living room concert hall on the planet.
♪♪ >>I know the first time I came here and I walked into this in this hall, I mean, it's it's really kin of a masterpiece of engineering.
Benoit had definite idea on how we wanted to set this up.
And when you walk in and you can't believe this is someone's home.
Well, being a musician is is it's it's never boring because there's always something new to learn.
It's not always easy, but it keeps us growing as individuals.
>>The arts are the highest form of human endeavor.
The way we support or don' support the arts in this country is an important part of the necessity to have people like me doin things like we are doing here.
All of that energy that we spend defending or protecting, what are we protecting?
We're protecting the arts.
And all that's that is good about the world.
Like, why are we trying to stay healthy?
Because we want to live.
Why do we want to live?
We want to live because there's music and there's art in our lives.
Wake up Orlando, you have a great arts community here, a great music and art scene.
But if you know about it, then it's your responsibility to take care of it and enjoy it and partake.
To me, that's what we're doing here and that' what everybody should be doing.
>>First, physical and spirit, I'm a seed designed to grow.
There's no reason now to fear it as I'm known I will know.
I'm on my way to somewhere.
But I will not be alone.
I'll meet the one who's always been there.
I will know as I am known.
