We are visiting Clover today.

She's our new, Chinese muntjac that we just got from Elmwood Park Zoo in Pennsylvania.

Jessica Phoenix one of the zookeepers here at the zoo.

You know, the biggest thing that's unique about them is they are teeny, teeny tiny.

So they only weigh about 20 pounds.

I believe they're the smallest deer species in the world.

So the muntjac has now gone out of quarantine?

Yep.

She's out with her red pandas right now.

And that's where that's her permanent home.

The pandas and her just kind of ignore each other.

We're intending to get a male for her also.

And so we'll also be doing muntjac breeding.

She's part of the SSP, which is a species survival plan.

So all of the breeding of them is monitored through AZA.

And we make sure that the genetics are good together.

The biggest thing is just yeah building trust with her.

I'm always like crouched down low.

So it's to be the least like scary as possible, I guess.

I try to get down at her level.

It's kind of a different kind of species.

You don't see animals like that very often.
