So they gave him his nickname, monikered name Tito Puente.
And, I continue to take on his legacy and bring the music to the new generation.
Puente means "bridge" in Spanish, and that's what I've been doing for the past 24 years, since his passing is connecting younger generations now or those who have never seen Tito Puente or heard of him to understand his music.

And, my mother wanted me to spend more time with him.
So, during the summertimes or breaks like spring break and stuff like that, I would go on the road with him and I set up his drums.
And, I would experience something that I never thought I would experience at that age, at a young age of 12, 13, 14 years old and seeing a master, a legend, a genius at work.
And, it was great traveling and experiencing different cultures, creeds of people come together for one purpose, and that's to listen to his music.
But, he was just "dear old dad" to me.
And, being around him was something special for me.
