For eight years, he has spent 4th of July week selling fireworks in an empty parking lot in Vernon.
His stand is among the hundreds across the country owned by TNT Fireworks, which bills itself as the country's largest distributor of consumer fireworks.
-Right here we have a host of different safe and sane fireworks.
These are not illegal fireworks.
These are stuff that is legal to sell here in the city of Vernon.
We got some of the bigger ones.
These are the Launch Pad Heroes.
These are some of the bigger fireworks.
These are going to be more if you want to have one of those type of statement shows.
-Now, TNT Fireworks is trying to get California to crack down on illegal fireworks, and wants the state to sign a deal with Nevada to stop illegal fireworks from crossing the border.
While safe and sane fireworks, such as Morning Glory sparklers, smoke balls, and noisemakers are legal in many cities throughout California, projectile and explosive fireworks are illegal everywhere in the state.
So far this year, California has seized more than 120 tons of illegal fireworks which is well above average, said the State Fire Marshal, Daniel Berlant.
Dennis Revell, who represents TNT Fireworks, said that many illegal fireworks are coming from stores in Nevada counties, where all fireworks are legal.
Some just 8 miles from the California border.
Revell proposed to a fire marshals advisory committee that California and Nevada should work together to stop illegal firework sales earlier.
Firework stores in Nevada are already required to log information about their customers, including their ID.
"Through an interstate compact," Revell said, "Nevada could require stores to put this information into a state database and alert California law enforcement when a California resident buys fireworks that are illegal here."
The proposal is now in the State Fire Marshal's hands.
If that proposal moves forward, it would be presented to Governor Gavin Newsom's office, which will discuss it with Nevada Governor, Joe Lombardo.
