- [Announcer] This week on Inland Sessions, ♪ Lonely days are long ♪ ♪ Twilight sings a song ♪ ♪ ♪ We're the Tonedevil Brothers, join us for Inland Sessions.
♪ (upbeat music) (lighthearted guitar music) - All right.
The Cannonball Rag there for you folks.
And thanks a lot.
Yeah.
We're the Tonedevil brothers from Sandpoint, Idaho.
And thank you for tuning in.
I'm playing a harp guitar, for anybody that doesn't know what this is called.
And he's got a mini harp guitar, also known as a heart mandolin.
So they're kind of twin instruments here a little bit.
We've used the same top wood, I believe on this one?
- [Tony] Yeah, some California redwood.
- Yea, my brother and I both build instruments.
We build guitars.
So these are some of our custom instruments from up in Sandpoint.
And we really enjoy putting stuff together and hearing what the wood sounds like.
It's kind of like Christmas morning when you first string up an instrument for the very first time and get to hear those first couple of notes coming off of it.
It's a euphoria almost that happens.
At least for me anyway.
- All you guitar players out there can relate.
- All right.
One, two, ready.

- Nice picking to yourself there Dave.
- All right.
- It sounded good.
That was a lot of fun.
- That was a good one.
That's a good old tune called "Sweet Sue."
And we hope you enjoyed that one.
And this is the original tune that you wrote.
Boy, what year was that?
- Oh, yeah, that's going back a little while, isn't it?
- Showing our age a little bit.
My brother wrote this tune, I think when you were in Nashville, we spent some time down in Nashville in 2009 or '10, something like that?
- Probably 2010.
- And that was the year of the flood.
If anybody remembers Nashville had the Cumberland river raise up about 12 feet and the town flooded.
It's kind of like the twilight zone there.
- Three foot long cat fish were swimming around in parking lots.
- It was interesting, interesting times But I think this is about a girl, maybe or something so.
- This is a love song.
- This is a love song.
- Take it away Dave - Called "The Last Time."

- Yeah, let's do a fiddle tune.
- All right.
Sounds good.
- Shout out to our fiddle tune mentor, Arvid Lundin.
- Oh, Arvid, you worked for Arvid for, how many years, about six or seven years or something?
- Yeah.
Off and on.
Probably six or eight years even.
- He had the Lundin's violins down right here in Spokane.
- Right off Monroe street.
A lot of people might remember Arvid Lundin and the violin shop.
- I think they were on the upper river drive for awhile, and then he moved to Coeur d'Alene years ago and that's kind of where we got to meet him and spend a bit more time with him.
He was doing Celtic jams every Saturday, or once or twice a month or something?
That we started going to.
- After he was a fiddle judge at the Weiser Idaho fiddle competition.
- Yeah, Arvid, he's a guy to know, and to look up and to definitely hear some of his stuff.
But a different one of our mentors as a luthier as well, he makes pretty fine violins.
And, anyways, this is a fiddle tune that we like to play with Harvard sometimes called "Angeline the Baker" (lighthearted guitar music) All right (indistinct).
All right, this is a Leo Kottke tune.
It is called "Twice."
But we're only gonna play at once.

And this has been fun.
I guess we should say something a little bit about our guitar company, Tonedevil Guitars.
You can check that out on the internet.
We do a lot of custom work, mostly harp guitar stuff.
We're starting to double a little bit in electric guitars.
But we're kind of focused on the harp guitar, just because we saw a little bit of a need for that.
And definitely check out the Tonedevil Guitars' website.
And our music is on there too, I believe on the store page.
