I'm Jim Myers.
Today's session features Trash Cinema.
Longtime collaborator Dan Kirkus, who sings and plays guitar, and Brian Stabile, who plays drums, have been creating original musi together for more than a decade.
Known originally as the two piece band Yogurt Smoothness, the duo recently added bass player Kurt Lampe to the band and officially dubbed the group Trash Cinema.
Before the session, we had a chance to talk to the guys about their artistic influences, the band's formation, their songwriting process, upcoming projects, and more.

♪♪ We started out as a two piec band, called Yogurt Smoothness.
Brian and I, decided to go, like a experimental punk route, and, got our legs playing around Orlando and coffee bars and different small bars and dive bars.
Found a lot of cool people, made a lot of cool friends.
It, it was fringy.
It was, kind of weird, tongue in cheek music, but, we we had, a diehard following that was, you know, small, but enough to keep us going.
We put out a couple records, and, I recently relocated to a different town and kind of started thinking about music and in more broader terms of, like, how can this be more music for the masses and appeal and, kind of take the fringy element out a little bit to, to, be mor holistic in my, in my approach and have good stories and have, you know, more, more, rounded sound, well-rounded sound with all the elements.
And then Kurt came along, saw us playing with a subpar, bassist, but, he, said, I want to play bass with you guys.
And we were we were definitely enthused and started working on the latest material and.

>>Kurt actually inspired us to go with it.
We kept coming back to it, even though I had some wild ideas.
But, ultimately, that's.
That was the one that stuck.
We all kind of are movie junkies, and, we have, you know, similar music tastes too so it kind of made sense, to me, to me, the meaning "Trash Cinema" is not just necessarily the, you know, pigeon-hole definition of movies that are bad on purpose, movies that are cheeky.
I, I've started seeing kind of, social media follow that trend where everybody is just putting out content and most of it's bad.
♪♪ You and are looking for a way to escape, but alon I can not seem to let you.
But the lines are coming to this rough skin.
When I was supposed to be closer.
Dont you wait for the lights when you start to laugh.

Were always running till we love this game.

♪♪ The song Hold Me, is is one that's near and dear to me.
Because it's it's it's largely in part to, the birth of my first child.
And, to me, when I would, when I would play it, for her, she, she loved it.
And she, she's actually aspiring to, to be getting into music now too, which is really cool.

And God didnt want you to come closer, but you found a way.

♪♪ >>I've been coming here for almost ten years now because, I'm part of Indienomicon which is an indie game developing thing.
And so I've been showing off games here for a long time but never got to use the studios and all the other stuff just kind of having demos, and.
>>Yeah, I'm, I'm just mostly impressed with the, the spectacle of, of this place.
So I'm pretty excited.

♪♪ >>'Caus I used to play a lot of open mic nights, and I would try the material out, on unsuspecting, coffee drinkers, and, sometimes there were wins, sometimes they weren't.
But, when, when something would kind of stay there and and, I would add different verses or different choruses or change the arrangement.
Then I would bring it to th band setting and turn the amps up, turn the distortion peda on, and really just rip on it.
Maybe completely change the whole dynamic.
Another another common practice is like, we're tired of practicing these songs.
Let's just come up with something.

Cant seem to get it together.
And the pen refused to write your letter.
Something about this toxic scene.
