We spoke to triple A about where Kentuckians are heading to celebrate and how to stay safe.
Getting their over 815,000 people will be traveling from Kentucky.
That's about 17% of Kentucky's population.
About 90% will be going by car, about 4.5% flying in the remainder.
Just over 5% will be going by some other mode of transportation.
Now that includes cruises, which is really what boost that category a lot of people, are taking cruises.
That's very popular.
Florida remains a top destination, especially Orlando.
Now, this year with, the 250th anniversary of the US, a lot of people we're hearing kind of anecdotally, they're planning a trip around some historic sites so they might be going to Philadelphia or Boston.
So with a lot of people traveling, that's real close to what our travel numbers were last year, less than a percent higher this year's prediction versus the actual numbers last year.
So essentially flat from what we saw a year ago, despite higher gas prices.
So in Kentucky, our gas price today is averaging about $3.45.
You can compare that to July 4th of 2025.
And we were right around, $2.84.
Roadways are going to be busy.
Your best bet is to get on the road as early in the day as possible to miss some of that.
Most of the traffic congestion this coming Thursday ahead of 4th of July weekend is supposed to be especially busy.
A lot of people taking that four day weekend and so keep that in mind if that's your travel day.
Especially pay attention to your tires and your batteries.
Those are some of the highest rate of calls that we get, especially over the summer months.
Heat is very hard on your car battery.
A lot of times we think about, the winter cold being hard on the car's battery, which it is, but the summer heat, when you hit any of these extreme temperatures, it can be even worse for your car battery.
A one, reminder from traffic safety standpoint, not everyone has the 4th of July holiday off, so there will be people working roadside.
Our people will be out there.
So triple AA as well as other first responders, law enforcement, you'll come across probably some, road maintenance workers.
Remember to slow down when you see those flashing lights this safe to do.
So move over lane until you pass the situation.
Another reminder for those going by car, make sure that you have a vehicle emergency kit in your car.
Throw in some waters for everyone in the car.
It's a family.
Dogs going on the trip.
Be sure that you have a bowl and some water for them, and then some snacks for everybody as well, just in case you do end up getting, trapped in some traffic, at least you can, stay comfortable.
