♪♪♪ Here's a song from my friend Sammi.
She was just one of the lights in everyone's life not just mine.
And when I get--when I miss her, I watch the remake of "Bad News Bears," 'cause she's the female pitcher.
And that one in a, you know I was living in my car in San Francisco when I got the call that her funeral was the next day in Los Angeles.
And it's about 2 o'clock in the morning and I just headed to LA immediately.
And when I woke up such a daze, man you know, it's weird.
You guys have experienced this before, I'm sure.
And you--all your--all the cells in your body changes for a little while.
And after her funeral, we did what we always would do pastime in San Francisco.
We'd do together, we'd roll a spliff and hot box like my car.
And this guy came up with this husky.
It was like this very pure white colors.
The whitest white I've ever seen.
It's like cartoon white, you know?
And we're all stunned.
We asked this guy if we could pet his dog.
He's like, "Yeah, sure."
And after a while we're like, "What's this girl's name?"
And he said, "Sammi."
This is for Sammi.
It's called "Sammi's Song."

I was playing like video games and skateboarding, things like that.
And got to say I was maybe 11 years old, and one day when he was gone, he worked that Round Table Pizza.
I went in his room looking for something, something like, you know, I think it was a PlayStation game or the Nintendo 64 game.
And his room was so dirty that I couldn't see his guitar on the floor, and I stepped on it and broke his guitar.
And I felt so bad.
I felt so bad that I broke, 'cause I see him play this thing all the time.
I knew it meant a lot to him.
I had no idea what a guitar really was, it just hadn't really crossed my mind.
And I called him at Round Table.
I'm like, "Joey, I'm so sorry I broke your guitar."
And he was like, "No, it's fine."
Man, I paid $10 for that a day in Mexico.
"In fact, when I get home, I'll show you how to play it."
So he got home and he kind of said, "Okay, go like this with your thumb."
And he took my thumb and he just said, "Keep doing that and one day you'll be good."
And I did that all night long.
I was just listening to the sound.
It's fascinating.
Yeah.
And then I guess I was addicted after that.
So I learned it out of guilt is what I'm saying, yeah.
And then later I had to, you know, I had to do projects in English class, I loved English.
And we had to do a project on the Dust Bowl, and that's when I found out about Woody Guthrie.
And I was extremely fascinated by the fact that he sang this song that I've known my whole life.
And I didn't know it was this one guy, "This Land is Your Land."
I said to myself, that's nuts, you know.
This man--one man makes a song and the whole country, you know, sings it forever.
I thought that was wildly fascinating.
So, man, I guess it's just--I play something until it sounds--until I hear a song.
Sometimes a D chord will just sound like a D chord.
It will have no magic to it whatsoever.
In other days, same strum, you just happen to hear a song.
It's kind of like having ghosts in your head, and which it is.
Sometimes you just hear things.
